History

Russian history started with the emergence of Slavs about 3500 years ago. Slavs were the Indo-European group who were settled in Poland and western Russia. During 9th century AD, Vikings started to penetrate into Russia. In 862 the first Russian dynasty was found by Viking Rurik. Kievan Rus was the first Russian state which existed for about 300 years. During 17-18th century capitalist system began to form in Russia. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.) was formed on 30th Dec, 1922. On 12 Dec, 1993 a referendum was held and in that referendum a Constitution of the Russian Federation was adopted which declared Russia a democratic federal state. Today Russia has a republican form of government and it has a mixture of both capitalism and socialism.
